Can these bones live? Prayer for Lent 5 Year A — Ana Gobledale, UK

Ezekiel 37:1-14

Breathe on me, breath of God,

till I am wholly thine,

until this earthly part of me,

glows with thy fire divine.

Breath of Life, can these bones live?

Valleys of dry bones confront us, threatening to separate us from you.

Each day, our newspapers highlight the numerous and extensive dry-bone-valleys in our world.

We sometimes think that the valley of dry bones before us is the most hopeless, dry valley there has ever been.

Save us from despair and worthless pursuits.

Hearing your word today, we remember the death valleys of our forebears in the faith.

Many have gone before us.

Your spirit breathed life and love into them when they thought they could not go on.

Breathe on us, today.  Restore our hope and trust in you and your ever-present spirit.

Abide with us as we journey through this Lenten season, and as we journey through life.

Assure us that these bones can live!

Amen.
