Contacting God, Children’s Message — Tod & Ana Gobledale, UK

Preparation:   Bag with telephone inside.  The telephone should be easily recognizable, as a telephone, by the children.

Gather the children around. I like to face the children, with my back to the congregation.  I either sit on the floor or on a child’s small chair.  The children either sit on the floor around me or along the chancel steps facing me.

Script:

If you are near someone and want to get their attention, what do you do?

Wait for children to respond… Fish for answers resembling the following:

We reach out, draw closer, touch them, make contact, say hello.

If we want to be in touch with someone who is a bit far away, what do we do?

Wait for children to respond…

We call them on the telephone.

Pull recognizable telephone out of bag.

If we want to be in touch with God, what do we do?

We reach out in prayer.

We reach out, draw closer, make contact, say hello.

Let’s reach out to God now.  Let’s pray together.

God, thank you for being so easy to contact.

Help us remember to reach out, draw closer, make contact and say hello to you.

Amen.
