All creation waits with longing — John Miller Campbell, UK

Written for Season of Creation and Earth Day
Romans 8.19-25
Tune: Abbot’s Leigh

All creation waits with longing
for a better world to be,
for a kinder, fairer planet,
where all life has been set free,
where Christ’s death and resurrection
works renewal for it all,
where God’s Spirit fills God’s children,
ends all traces of their fall.

All creation groans together
with the pains of our re-birth,
longing for our transformation
where we own creation’s worth,
where we start to value all life,
cease to exploit, slash and burn,
where, enabled by God’s Spirit,
we God’s values start to learn.

All creation longs for freedom
from our cruel, selfish way,
for a time when we abandon,
our commitment to decay.
Then, adopted, changed, enabled,
we’ll together save our earth,
by the Spirit, by our actions,
celebrate creation’s worth.
