Adapted from a prayer giving thanks for the initial ceasefire announcement

God of Love,
We pray for a ceasefire in Israel and its neighbours,
that it may be implemented
and lead to a lasting peace in the region.
With heavy hearts we grieve the unfulfilled promises,

praying for those held against their will,
for their recovery and recuperation
for their hoped for reunion with family and friends.
We pray that the death and destruction cease.
May justice reign, justice that establishes peace, promotes hope,
frees people from fear, encourages neighbours to love one another
and brings an end to the seemingly endless cycle
of injustice, violence and death.

Help us not give up on hope.
This we ask in the power of your Spirit.
