Here am I, send me! — Lois Hodrick, Democratic Congo

God: And God said, “GO!”
Me: And I said, “Who, me?!”
God: And God said, “Yes, YOU!”
Me: And I said, “But I’m not ready yet.
And there is company coming,
And I can’t leave my kids;
You know there’s no one to take my place.”
God: And God said, “You’re stalling.”

God: And God said, “GO!”
Me: And I said, “But I don’t want to,”
God: And God said, “I didn’t ask if you wanted to.”
Me: And I said, “Listen,
I’m not the kind of person to get involved in controversy.
Besides, my family won’t like it,
And what will the neighbours think!
God: And God said, “Baloney!”

God: And yet a third time God said, “GO!”
Me: And I said, “Do I have to?”
God: And God said, “Do you love me?
Me: And I said, “Look, I’m scared…
People are going to hate me…
And cut me up in little pieces…
I can’t take it all by myself.”
God: And God said, “where do you think I will be?”

God: And God said, “GO!”
Me: And I sighed, “Here am I, send me!”
