WORD Prayers of Intercession – Amos 7,7-15

A different responsive line might be chosen, e.g. God of the prophets, we lift our prayers to you.

As people of faith, we turn to God in prayer.

Join me in our prayers of intercession.

Gracious God, we speak our truth into your power. We bring our hurts and our hopes, and those of our world, offering them up to you, trusting in your mercy and justice.

God, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

God, we pray for your mercy upon those who hurt, those whose voices are silenced, those who faithfully persist in speaking truth to power:

  • We pray for those silenced for speaking out against corruption, and for those who continue to demand justice;
  • for those silenced for speaking out against greed…

and for those who continue to cry out for a fairer distribution of wealth;

God, in your mercy,  hear our prayer.

We pray for

  • those silenced for speaking out against animal cruelty … and for those who continue to work for more humane alternatives;
  • for those silenced for speaking out against pollution… and for those who continue to cry out the truth about environmental issues;
  • for those who warn of a crisis that we can avert if we act creatively. Open our ears.

God, in your mercy,  hear our prayer.

We pray

  • for those who persist to tell the truth about things that have been covered up,
  • for those who speak to our churches words of truth, challenge and inspiration,
  • for those who provide hope.

Open our ears and hearts to those whom you call to be prophetic voices in our world today. Keep them strong when they are threatened. Be with them when they face danger and death.

God, in your mercy,  hear our prayer.

We pray for those who are not well, in body or mind.  Breathe your spirit upon them, that they may sense your loving presence.  We pray for those in our families and our church families. Surround each person with your love and healing power.

God, in your mercy,  hear our prayer.

In this moment of silence, we lift up the prayers in our hearts.  [SILENCE]

  God, in your mercy,  hear our prayer.

Eternal One, in faith and hope,

we humbly lift our prayers, spoken and unspoken,

to you, in the name of Jesus, God’s voice of justice.

Amen.
