God
Doesn’t ask us
To believe in the future.
God calls us
To believe the future in!
Without vision,
People perish.

God
Doesn’t ask us
To believe in love.
God asks us to believe love in,
By what we do and say
In our relationships
And daily priorities.

God
Doesn’t ask us
To believe in the kin-dom.*
God calls us to believe the kin-dom in,
By our character
And our commitments.

As we prepare for Christmas,
We remember
That we make our own decisions…
“What am I / are we doing?”
“How am I / are we preparing?”
“How am I / are we relating?”

This Christmas,
Will we curse the darkness
Or light a candle?

*One might alternatively use the phrase ‘realm of goodness’ or ‘peaceable realm’.
