Repairing the Breach, Pentecost Prayer — David Long-Higgins, USA

Loving God,
Form our lives
Into the soil necessary
To fill the breach
So deep in our days.

Let us become the ground
Of Your new beginnings
Growing Your green
Gift of healing and hope
Otherwise impossible
To imagine in a world
Stretched ever wider
In needless distancing
From each other.

Yes, cultivate in us
A ready willingness
To be used by You
For Your formation
Of a new creation
Bearing up possibilities
That remind us anew
Of Your power to plant
An alternative way
Formed by self-giving
Love that seeks
The common good
So often uncommon
In these days.

Reverse every resistance
Residing in our souls
To this of Your desire
To build an alternative
To the division and fear
Widening the gap
In Your human family.

Instead, stretch us
Toward each other
With Your Spirit-led vision
Revealed through Christ
Of a full flourishing
For Your human family
And the whole creation.

Yes, O Love,
Pour Your Pentecost
Spirit of sacred weave
Using every language
Of heaven and earth
To awaken our discovery
Of Your deep desire
To heal every divide
And give rise to a growth
That binds us to You
And to each other.

Yes, ready us and use us
As the ground of good
You use to repair the breach
Widening at every turn.
