We have forgotten our baptism, a prayer — Thandiwe Dale-Ferguson, USA

Holy God, forgive us, for we have forgotten our baptism.
You call us to draw near, but we turn away in fear and shame.
You call us to love our neighbour, but we allow our distrust and preoccupations to justify our indifference.
You call us to love ourselves, but the voices of insecurity and self-criticism drown out your message of our own value and worth.

Forgive us, O God, and remind us again
of the gifts of Spirit and water,
the gifts of grace and mercy.
Remind us that your Spirit is still speaking.
Your voice is still calling
each of us by name.
You have forgiven us already
and you invite us into beloved community
where peace and justice prevail
and all may find belonging.
Amen.
