An Existential Search, preparing for worship — William Stephenson, USA
As I prepare for worship
I seek
a fresh breath of life into my being
and a renewal of spirit into my soul.
As I prepare for worship
I look
and long for
a new season of serenity.
I have
come to see how the chaos in this world
and the conflicts in my own life
are connected to each other
and often congruent.
I struggle
by hugging my hurts
and helping my hopelessness,
fighting the temptation to turn
toward those around me,
blaming them for all
I am feeling within me.
As I prepare for worship
I seek
a vessel that will carry me
to a compassionate and caring place
I cannot find alone.
My heart
hungers for hope,
for I fear that failure
will find no forgiveness.
