Inspired by verses in Genesis 1
Reader 1: May God’s truth continue to be revealed. The ancient story becomes our story. With a word of love, God creates beauty, nature and goodness.
God: ‘Let the waters bring forth swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the dome of the sky.’
Reader 2: Divine Love created the great sea monsters and every living creature that moves, of every kind, with which the waters teem, and every winged bird of every kind.
Reader 1: The Creator saw that it was good and said,
God: ‘Let the earth bring forth living creatures of every kind: cattle and creeping things and wild animals of the earth.’
Reader 2: And it was so.
Reader 1: The Creator saw that it was good and said,
God: Let us make a kind of human in our image, according to our likeness. Let them have responsibility for the fish of the sea, the birds of the air and every thing that creeps upon the earth.
Reader 2: God created all kinds of humans, all in God’s image. In the image of God they were created. God created them, loved them and blessed them.
God: I bless and love you all, everyone of you, for you are like me in your goodness, everyone of you. You are beautiful and worthy of my love, just as you are.
Reader 1: God said to them,
God: I trust you to be my stewards. Be fruitful, responsible and wise. Fill the earth with goodness, caring for everything upon the earth – the creatures, the water, the air and the very soil itself.
Reader 2: And it was so.
Reader 1: God saw everything that God had made. It was very good.
Reader 2: When God looks at creation today, what does God see? Have we filled the earth with goodness? Are we being responsible and wise stewards?
Reader 1: Pray with us. God thank you this amazing world and universe. Forgive us for consuming and abusing it. Convict us as your stewards, renewed in our commitment to fill the earth with goodness.
