They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
The Ode comes from ‘For the Fallen’, a poem by the English poet and writer Laurence Binon and was published in London in The Winnowing Fan: Poems of the Great War in 1914.
This verse, which became the ‘Ode for the Returned and Services League’, has been used in association with ANZAC commemoration services in Australia since 1921.
