Worship Mystery, hymn — Sam Goodman, UK

Winchester Cathedral

The tune is ‘Davos’ by Michael Baughen, used by Timothy Dudley-Smith for his hymn, ‘I lift my eyes to the quiet hills’.  It’s a challenging tune, but the words do fit.

I see a star
And a stable bare
And a baby a mother lays
On manger hay
On Christmas Day
This baby Emanuel

An angel choir
Brings a message here
To announce God has come to earth
A simple birth
Love beyond all worth
Is shown as this child appears

Some shepherds come
And they leave their flocks
And they hurry to Bethlehem
On bended knee
Worship mystery
And God coming down to them

The star still shines
And it brings us hope
That salvation can come to us
Right here and now
Love that hope allows
Can bring joy and peace to us
