Non-Binary Awareness Week – mid-July

Non-Binary Awareness Week is ‘dedicated to those who do not fit within the traditional gender binary or, put simply, those who do not exclusively identify as a man or a woman, or who may identify as both a man and a woman or may fall outside of these categories altogether.’

From Open Table Liverpool:  ‘One of the things I continue to be amazed at in creation is its incredible diversity and how it defies our ability to put neat categories to it. To move beyond false binaries and neat categories is a deeply Christian and deeply biblical thing to do.  As Paul writes, ‘There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus’ (Galatians 3.28), encouraging 1st Century Christians and us to move beyond binary thinking of in/out, good/bad, into a broad both/and.’

Worship Resources:

Worship resources available on Worship Words

While parts of the church continue to wait for those who are homophobic to ‘catch up’ or persist in speaking from an historically ‘straight’ perspective, these resources reflect parts of the church that already live in full inclusion.  They have been created primarily for use in worship in inclusive communities.  They are written from a perspective of claiming a place at the table, already knowing that it is not up to the church to ‘welcome’, for God has already called and welcomed everyone.
